Background

IndePenDent Business Services Ltd is the largest Special Educational Needs (SEN) Statement Writing Service in the UK.  We have produced statements for one third of the Local Authorities in England and serve County Councils, London Boroughs and Unitary and Borough Councils in every region nationally. We produce up to 1000 statements per month and have produced over 60,000 statements altogether.

IndePenDent Business Services Ltd was set up in May 1996 by Penny Dent, who has a degree in psychology and nearly ten years working in retail management and HR in industry.  The business started working for Local Authorities, producing 12 SEN Statements per month, growing gradually over the years.  We have always made sure that we could cope with our continually increasing workload. Working practices have been constantly reviewed, making sure that they meet the needs of the business.  The office team is now led by Miriam Henson, Business Manager and includes Lorraine Walker, Corinna Bourke and Vicky Carley.

We have over 40 people to whom we sub-contract – highly skilled writers who are adept at producing clear, unambiguous documents to our customers’ high specification.

The business is unusual in its structure, as the majority of writers work in their own homes, fitting the work into their lives with their families.  This gives the business its unique flexibility, which means that we can deal with huge variations in workload capacity. We write every day of the year (except Christmas Day).  The office team are always available to deal with queries and problems.

You have no management responsibilities, yet all the flexibility of a variable workforce.
